Come one, come all to Coquille’s beautiful Sturdivant Park for a weekend of celebration and championships! (Event on Facebook)
Schedule of Events
The Shire of Tymberhavene is ready to select its new champions! Join us for a weekend of medieval-esque camping, arts & sciences, cooking, bardic, archery, rapier, cut & thrust, thrown weapons, and armored combat! There’s even a bocce ball tournament! There’s something for everyone at this family-friendly event! To participate, we humble request that an attempt at pre-1600’s attire is done. For a simple tutorial on how to make a T-tunic out of a t-shirt, please see this link!
The site opens on Friday, July 26, at 3pm. At 6pm, the Soup Kitchen opens for all! Tymberhavene loves their soups and this year will be no different! From modern recipes to medieval fares, the Tymberhavene Soup Kitchen is sure to have something for everyone (allergies will be labeled to the best of our abilities). After Soup, hang out with us in the various camps for campfires and storytelling, impromptu bardic, maybe even some medieval dancing!
Saturday, July 27, is when the schedule really fills up! At 9am, we will hold an Opening Court, hosted by Their Excellencies Glyn Dwfn (Medford/Ashland area) Baron Piaras mac Toirdhealbhaigh & Baroness Milisandia to get our day started! Immediately following opening court, the Archery Range will be open! Also immediately following Court, the Arts & Sciences displays** will be set up and Seamus & Kseniia will be teaching their Poisons & Antedotes class at 10am. At 11am, the first of the armored combat will commence along with some medieval dancing! At noon, we’ll take a break and break some bread for lunch, after which will be followed by rapier and thrown weapons championships at 1pm. At 2pm, please enjoy the cut & thrust tournament. Our Games Champion will be hosting the Bocce Ball Tournament at 3pm and all are welcomed to participate! At 4pm, Kseniia will be back to teach you all about medieval necromancy in a survey-style class called “Bring Up Your Dead!” We’ll wrap up the Arts & Sciences Judging at 5pm, just in time for Evening Court at 6pm where Their Excellencies will announce our New Champions!
Finally, at 7pm, we will have our Period Cooking Competition along with our potluck dinner with our Bardic Championship following at 8pm. If you want to participate in a truly unique (and truly Tymberhavene) event, then stick around til 10pm when we start our Glow-in-the-Dark Bocce Ball games!
Sunday morning comes with a potluck breakfast around 9am to help give us strength and energy to break down camp and be off-site by 3pm. Those tents won’t pack themselves!
Non-members can expect to pay $30 for the weekend, while society members can expect to pay $20. Youths 17 and under are Guests of the Shire (aka FREE)! Come out and join us for an exciting weekend!
***Dogs welcome, but must be kept on leashes. Please pick up after your dog.
**Arts & Sciences Competition Details
For the competition this year, we will be looking at how your art or science interfaces with the realm of DEATH. Given the addition of a class about medieval necromancy, it is a fitting theme! Do you make instruments? Perhaps there was a particular wood used to create instruments for funeral services. A potions person? How did the potions factor into embalming or even the prolonging of life? A bard, you say? Are there certain songs reserved for the passage from this life into the next, or maybe a story that encapsulates the journey with the Ferryman? Cooking expert? What type of foods would have been served to those grieving losses? You get the idea. Tie your art or science into the realm of DEATH and share with us your discoveries, your knowledge, your art, your science!
Yours in Service,
Kseniia Aleksandrova
